RUISLIP

Ruislip is home to several different woods, walks, and the Lido. The woods form a nature reserve consisting of 139 acres of woodland. It is where the countryside and London collide. Located in zone 5 it is both in London and just far enough out to feel like the middle of the countryside.

Park wood, south of the Lido is one of Ruislip's woods. This wood is connected to the Lido where there is a sandy beach, children's play area and miniature railway that runs around the Lido through the woods. There is an enclosed tarmac path around the Lido. Park wood sits adjacent to this path, with a fence dividing the two areas. Park wood has multiple footpath type trails and bridleways. On the other side of Park Wood there is Ruislip Park Riding Stables.

Mad Bess Woods is across from Copse Wood. Its large free car park makes it very accessible and a good option for dog walkers and families. To the West it leads out to Bayhurst Wood Country Park and to the East to Copse Wood. Mad Bess is a particularly dense wood with two meadows leading off into Ruislip village. Large trails run through the wood, one being the Hillingdon trail, and smaller paths run around the perimeter. The woods are home to a few deer. Down the bottom of the woods there is a small stream, locally referred to as 'fairy stream'. A place where you could easily imagine jumping along the stream banks with fairies.
